MY DAY MY WAY

Image
Today is my day, I will live I will love , I will laugh my heart out and suppress the fears, The tears, I will keep the hope alive , I will see a positive side to my encounters , I will turn blind to the negatives that constantly tell me I can’t, I shouldn’t I will chase my dream through the winding road of life , But before me, I will pray for the hopeless , The sick , The ‘I have arrived and need no one’s,’ Only then will I have lived my God given day, My Way .

Mother Nature

Image
http://kenyanpoet.blogspot.com/ The marvels of mother nature, Greatly humbling my stature, And in such season And for such reason, I blossom, From within.

AFRICAN NIGHTS

Image
Then the cows moored, and the crickets danced in the dark, The birds too afraid to talk, whispered in their nests, Even the bravest of them all, The ever barking Chui, Tail between legs, Never managed a whisper, The rains Pelts the thatched roof, The humongous sounds Muffled, The Frogs not cheerful anymore, But our spirits on high, It could be the robers, Or the night olympicists, Or no one at all, But those nights, So safe, By my father's side.

Good neighborhood

How troubled do you get when you hear my screams at night, Neighbor? How concerned at you when you hear harmony of yawns from my children, With an accompaniment of belching from yours? How thoughtful are you when each of your kids, Skid past my tiny mud walled Bungalow, In their four wheeled Gas guzzlers as they are chauffeured to school, Overtaking us on our non-fueled two wheelers, As i drag my hungry kids to the local harambee school. Do you feel anything, Is your hear touched, Are your senses tickled? Do you for a moment stop to ask, And do the What If analysis? What if you offered us the surplus food you throw away to the canines? What if you became humane enough to drop my 2kids to the school once in a while, And they offer you the free services of cleaning your car after school? What if in heaven we'll be equal? The screams at night, when the thugs strike, Hope you dont smile and say good riddance, For i value you good neighbor, And on my knees i always remember to ask God ...

APPRECIATING THE DIFFERENCE IN OTHERS

I am me when i do what i do, I am not being mean, I am me when i think what i think, I am not being psychic, I am me when i say what i say, I am not making a fool out of myself, I am me when i laugh at myself, I am not insane to wait for you to do it for me, I am me when i tell you what i tell you, I am simply not trying to please you, I am me when i was writing this, I am not trying to be the greatest poet that ever lived, I am me when i ask you to let me be me, If you find me boring Dont try changing me, That is me, If you find me quite, Dont expect me to suddenly chatterbox, That's me; i speak within, If you find me tall, Dont try breaking my bones to dwarfen me, I am me; thats how wonderfully and fearfully He created me, If you find me skinny for your liking, Dont try those fattening pills on me, I cant carry myself if i weighed more than this, If you find me different from the rest, Dont try conforming me to the rest, Take a minute and picture me in...

Simple Physics

Tit is no longer for tat, In real human Parlance, So Normal to pay evil for evil, Bad with bad, Insult with an even stronger insult, But in the new paradigm shift, Where tat isn't the wage for tit, Evil, bad and insult are bartered with GOOD, ABSOLUTE GOOD! Simple Physics, Like Poles repel, While the unlikes attract, Bad is the direct opposite that should attract GOOD.

NOT WILL BE

If everyone was Happy, If everyone you met on the street wore a genuine smile, If Every friend meant well for you, If everyone would step aside for a moment, Out of oneself and see how the world sees her, Wouldn't it be MARVELOUS? But they are not! What if all the people who told you they cared really did? What if everyone who's ever whispered in your ear that the LOVE YOU actually did, What if no one was trying to be richer than everyone, What if everyone you've ever met knows how it feels to go hungry for two straight days What if what if was never in the dictionary and instead we had IT IS? Wouldn't it be AWESOME? But it is not And if each one of us was content with what they had? And if each one of us did what they really love doing? And if you, me and them adopted a needy Haitian, Darfurian, 'in-needian'? And if each one of us realized how hating someone is so tiresome? Wouldn't That be LOVELY? But it is not! UNFORTUNATELY! But they can Be, It Can B...

Lamentations of me

Sometimes i give my best, Expecting the best in return, Retrogressing to the days of barter, I struggle so hard to please, To put smiles in the people i love, Or we imagine i love, I sacrifice my integrity at the stake of illusions, I pronounce everyone trustworthy untill proven o'wise, I lose friends for a friend, I strain my heart to care for the uncarable, I get baptised through pain daily, If only to emerge unscathed the next day, Yet it never dawns, I promise myself that this time it was the right decision, But! ALAS! Another Faux Pax or how do they Say in Paris? The vicious cycle of pain get replayed, With the same same rules; NO RULES Get hurt and don't tell, Pretend to be happy, Pretend that all is okay. But it is not! But show me Gold that was refined by a candle, What I have gone through is Simply put; NOTHING. I must CHOOSE to live today now, For yestercares and scares are looooong gone, And tomorrow is TOMORROW! Just unknown! With every step i take today, Every br...

Grandma's world

Sitting on Grandma's laps i used how it ould be true, That the world out there wasnot as safe a her reauring cuddle le me to believe, That out there, now out here, They were there, People who derive pleasure and treasure, And take the gain from th pain of others, That out there, here, I could not feign sickness and demand for my favourite brand of soda, That i could not look forward to everytuesday' and saturdays, When Grandma coul head to the market and come back with two and a half mandazis, Two for me and half for my sister, That no on cared whether i put on a backside deficient trouser to work, That this was the real world where everyone is to herself and God intended it the other way, Yes, this is the world we've come to believe in, But now as i take Grandma on my laps, I cant help but wonder how i shoul tell her sh was somehow wrong, That everyone builds the world he must live in, As for me; I rebuild the world Grandma made me feel, With her genuine concern for her g...

Unsimultaneous

Love and hate, Walk and crawl, See and stumble, Plead and demand, Sing and hum, Write and fight, Take and give, Beg and demand, Build and destroy, we cannot accomplish simultaneously.

The vicious cycle of wrong friendships

So I beg to start another friendship, Just because you have hurt me, You hurt me because i got too close to you, I became too close because you just came at the perfect moment, Just when i needed a friend, To see me through the pain i was going through, The pain of being hurt by someone titled "A friend" And so as our traditional swahili adage goes, 'The medicene of fire is fire' So i found you, Another fire to quench the other fire, But you too have become another fire gone awry, So?

Rain Inspired

It is that season again, For this reason I know, The dust is all gone, The first drops of the short rains, Wiping away our tears and fears Brought forth by the merciless drought, Merciless that it spared not even the innocent, Young and old, human and unhuman, haves and have not’s, The rain spared none, In its wake, We all were left dying of hunger, Thirsting for both water and better, Sneezing from the dust induced cough, Mending the soles and souls of our shoes hearts, And carrying our tears and fears to oceans beyond, Fare on rainy rain and drain the dusty coffers of our souls.

WANJIKU’S DIRGE

They speak at the peak of their voices, And their words, always the wrong choices, They imply in melismatic undertones, That we simply have to dance to their rhythm, or perish, But to some, there’s no chance of relinquishing the ethos we so cherish, Integrity be our shield and defender, in a field loitered by unintegrible souls, They call themselves the voice of the voiceless, But in reality they have taken our voices leaving us choice less, Greed is the fuel, upon which the chariots of their egos ride, Freed from the need to be sensitive to the needs of their subjects, They maim for wealth and drink to our health, And like sheep headed for the slaughter, We all applause them when they clear the phlegm from their fat throats, And even laugh along when they grin at our misery, And call it philanthropy when they donate back our taxes, The haves are at it again, Widening the rift, And we, the have not’s, Are drifting along to smooth waves of their ill devices, and the brakes cant engage.

Balance

In the middle of where i was, And where i want to be, What i was, And what i want to be. Who i was, And who i want to be. What i had, And what i want to have. Who i had, And who i want to have. What i felt, And what i want to feel. The middle is; Here, Now, Me, These, And you. The past is at the one end; no more, The future on the opposite side; speculation, Now in the middle, The pivot, The balance between The pain and the glory of the past; The legendary Bygone, And, The dreams, Desires, and visions of the morrow.

Time to consider

When times are hard, when things go wrong, when ideas dont add up, when the horizon cant be sighted, when everyone seems to be against, when our enemies seem to be having the last laugh, Its then that u step back, Just one step, Consider, Meditate, Pray, And realize, That you are actually up to the task; That you are the true definition of tough, That wrong is an imaginative synonym of good attempt, That no discover was ever made on the first trial, That where you maybe standing may be somebody else's horizon, That no one can ever be against us without us allowing them to be, In our minds, That our enemies often become our best friends. Yes,you get to realize that there's a force behind our very existence, That the force is God.

Statistics

Majority of people living below a dollar a day, I am in the majority and u in the minority, You are either infected or affected, I am affected, So are n you. Pagan or believer, I believe, Most people have suffered from a heartbreak, I have,if u havent, u are among the few, U either voted or you didnt, Like it or not, Every minute u live u are a statistic

Let the tears flow

Cry sister cry, U too brother, Let your salty river flow down the waterfall, And meander into lake oblivion, Hold nothing back, Let the river flood over, Let it wash away the pains over the bank, Let the swift breeze of calm, Blow over the smooth coast of peace, Let the waters thereof, Free you, From all the cares and snares, The laughter and the thereafter, The worries and hurries, And in the resultant peace, Bring back the smile Lost for a while, To your heart and mine and their's Cry on....

Unconcious bound

How old is hope? How long must i cope? I say tomorrow will be a brighter day, I wake up, Look outside my window, And Lo! Indeed it's brighter than yester. But at noontide, I hope again for a better morrow, And the vicious circadian cycle replays. The present troubles unbrighten today, I cant help but wonder, When dusk will strike again, So that i can hit the road again, The Royal road to the unconscious. For only there do i cease to worry, And there do i wish to tarry.

Sometimes

Sometimes we believe we can, thats why we do, Sometimes we believe we cant and so we dont, sometimes we wait for someone to come and dry our tears, to soothe our lonely hearts, to patch the broken pieces and place them back together, like a piece of jigsaw, Sometimes we are tempted to just sit down, Muse over ou problems, Burn alone from inside, Hope for a solution, But from where? Sometimes we have to say and believe, Yes we can, Sometimes we have to stop believeing we cant, Sometimes we have to dry our own tears, Maybe they are internal tears, NO one sees them, Sometimes we have to soothe our hearts, Maybe that's what nurtures and nourishes it, sometimes we have to let the pieces remain where they are, Sometimes we have to Rise up, Dust our shoes, And, Run on head-on collision course with our problems, For within us Is Divine, infinite POWER, Just sometimes
